Kato Public Charter School

Charter is about CHOICE in the delivery of academic programs and engaging students in learning.  Kato Public Charter School strives to empower enrichment and innovation for our students through individualized learning programs.  We focus on providing a safe and engaging learning environment for all students, from all walks of life, entering into grades 6-12.

At Kato Public Charter School, we center our individual learning plans around HOW a student learns, by adding innovation in HOW the curriculum requirements and standards are delivered, and benchmarks are achieved.   Our licensed teachers and qualified team are student centered above all, and are continuously working toward increasing professional knowledge in their licensed program areas.  Delivery of curriculum may include one on one online platforms, textbook and workbook study, classroom and group engagements, project based learning, and independent learning.

Kato Public Charter School is a "public" school, and our students and staff must meet the standards set forth by the Minnesota Department of Education for course curriculum, credits, and graduation requirements.  Our innovation is in our programs, designed to fit individual student needs, while focusing on both immediate and long term goals for success!

The Charter Choice:
  • Tuition-free, Open Enrollment
As a public school, there is no fee for enrollment for our students.  With open enrollment, we accept students that fit within our current programs for grades 6-12, following a lottery for acceptance when our cap of 20 students per grade is reached.
  • Learning Options for Students Grades 6 Through 12
With individualized learning, we focus on how a student may engage in the learning environment.  We provide one on one Chromebooks, Textbook, Workbook, Project Based, and Individualized learning opportunities.
  • Small Class Sizes
Smaller class sizes provide opportunity for more one on one engagement between staff and students, and more time for experiential learning and community involvement.  Our programs are established by grade level, and have a maximum student total of 20 students per grade, grades 6 through 12.
  • Qualified Staffing
Kato Public Charter School staff are qualified and licensed in their instructional areas in accordance with the Minnesota Department of Education requirements.   Teachers are given the opportunity for professional growth and development to reach above and beyond their current license areas and experience.  Our goal is to employ passionate, compassionate, and motivated professionals that share in the mission, vision, and values of the charter choice and student first programs at the center of what we do.
  • Customized and Self-Paced Learning
With open doors to all students, individual learning plans, and smaller classroom sizes, we are able to provide customized schedules and programs that fit our student needs.  Each student receives our core courses and standard testing to establish current and future benchmarks in learning.  In addition, we provide additional support and options including Special Education, Gifted & Talented, PSEO, Career Pathways, College and Career Readiness, Recovery, 504 Plans, Extended Learning, and Advanced Pacing.
  • Exploratory and Experiential Courses
Students at KPCS are able to engage in many areas of exploration and experiential learning.  From our 25 hours per year volunteer hours, to job shadowing, student activities, and exploratory field trips we always keep our students actively engaged during the school year.
